On May 22, 1982, the Montclair (NJ) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was chartered in Montclair, New Jersey by then Northeastern Province Polemarch; Brother Melvin Taylor (deceased).The Following ten (10) Brothers are recorded as Charter Members of this Chapter: Glen Caldwell, Matthew Carter, Barry Harmon, Sr., Alfred Jacksonm James Jones III Rev. Marvin McMickel, John Mullins, Sr., James Ramsey, Jacob Scott, and Rochester White. John E. Mullins, Sr. became the first Polemarch of the Montclair Alumni Chapter. The Chapter immediately began several community outreach and Guide Right programs.
These activities included: providing food baskets for local senior citizens who were members of Union Baptist Church and St. Paul Baptist Church during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays; assisting with the purchase of toys at a local children’s agency: and providing $1,000 in scholarships to Black males from the Montclair and Morristown areas. The First scholarship recipient of Montclair Alumni was Brian Stephenson; a 1983 graduate of Montclair High School.
Members of the Chapter have been recognized for various achievements by Kappa Alpha Psi, and by the various municipalities the Chapter draws from.
